Chris Forsey has been an illustrator and artist for most of his working life, living and working from his studio in Dorking, Surrey. His work is mostly concerned with capturing landscape, townscape and coastal subjects and also still life. The close proximity of the North Downs to home and studio constantly inspires Chris and he paints and sketches this fine landscape regularly. The West Country features strongly as a source of inspiration too - Devon, and Dorset in particular provide Chris with an endless source of countryside and coastal subjects.
When you look at Chris' work it is clear to see that his main preoccupation is with atmosphere, light and weather, and he endeavours to capture the fleeting changes and how it affects the scene before him. Chris prefers to work in the studio from location sketches and photographs, mostly in water-based media. He has written extensively, and made a number of successful instructional films on the subject of mixed media, of which he is considered a leading exponent. It doesn't matter whether Chris is using acrylic paint, inks, watercolour, pastels, or a combination of them all, his vibrant and energetic application of the media creates wonderfully dynamic and atmospheric landscape paintings that are highly sought after.
Chris was elected a member of The Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours in 2010 and is also a member of The Society of Graphic Fine Artists.
